A couple of months ago we decided to go to Blackhead lighthouse for a stroll with Ollie. I had seen some lovely pictures of the area and this walk. We love those coastal walks, so we just had to give it a go!

Blackhead lighthouse is located in Carrickfergus on the top of a cliff looking out over the ocean. It takes around 30-40 minutes to get there by car, depending on traffic.

It was built 1902 and guided many vessels back in the days - Titanic included. In 1965 it was converted to electric operation, but lightkeepers actually lived and stayed there unt 1975.

You also have the stunning coastal walk path that takes you up the sea caves and coves towards the Gobbins. It's approximately 2.5 kilometres, which is not too bad. It's an easy walk with a few steep hills and stairs, but it would definitely be okay for children as long as an eye is kept when walking along the cliff wall. Even if you have the railings to make sure you stay on your path, there is plenty of space for an accident to happen - so just be aware!
